A03 Animal Testing

Animal testing is used to access the safety and effectivness of drugs as well as understand how the human body functions. It is also used for education and training.
Animal testing is used for research, typically in a labortary enviroment.
It is likely that animal testing will decrease as alternatives continue to be developed and regulations similarly continue to moderate and hold accountable those who conduct animal testing.

Animal suffering is assessed according to a scale of:
  • Mild
  • Moderate
  • Substantial
  • Unclassified
Rights
Animal research and testing saves lives.
Humans benefit from animal testing.
Humans and animals can both get the same diseases.
Some procedures carried out on animals are not painful.
Wrongs
Animals have potentionally harmful chemicals tested on them without their consent.
Animals are a lot different to humans so the testing carried out on them might not even be accurate to test against humans.
